Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district BJP unit is mulling filing a complaint against Congress MLA U T Khader for his “fire” statement made during a speech against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 in the city.
District BJP spokesperson Jithendra Kottary told mediapersons here on Thursday, December 19, that the BJP is planning to wage a legal battle against Khader as he provoked the people to indulge in violence through his controversial remark. “The implementation of the CAA and National Register of Citizens (NRC) have nothing to do with the citizens of India. NRC intends to send back those who entered India illegally and the NRC is to provide citizenship to minorities residing in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, who have fled religious persecution in their countries. As this decision of the Union Government was to empower our country, it is the need of the hour to welcome this decision,” he said.
Kottary alleged that Khader is a communal leader as he provoked the people to become violent. “The Home Minister already clarified that the CAA is not against the Muslim community and there is no question of withdrawing the citizenship of those who are residing in India, irrespective of religion. Then why should Khader make such provocative statements in a public meeting?” he asked and added that the whole of the Congress party is opposing the move for political milage.
BJP leaders Sandesh Shetty, Nithin Kumar and others were present.
