Mangaluru: Close on the heels of illegal sand miners assaulting Udupi Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner and Village Accountant in Udupi, yet another shocking incident has been reported from Mangaluru where an ASI attached to Urwa police station was brutally assaulted by miscreants.

Aithappa, was plying on his bike at 3.30 am on Wednesday on duty when two masked bike-borne miscreants assaulted him with rods. With severe head injuries, Aithappa was rushed to a nearby hospital. 

As per sources, one possibility is that the attack may have been a repercussion to the lathi-charge incident that had occurred on Tuesday on the PFI members who resorted to staging protest in Mangaluru. 

Already, one team headed by ACP Uday Nayak, backed by the City Crime Branch has been formed to crack down the perpetrators in this case. 

City Police Commissioner Chandraskekar M among others have visited him and investigations are on.
