Unity Health Complex specialists perform first key hole liver surgery in Mangalore

Mangalore : Unity Health Complex has  achieved a milestone by performing the first Key Hole Liver Surgery in mangalore recently, said Dr Ashfaque Mohammed.

Speaking to reporters at  Press Club on June 14, Friday, he said that a 72 year old female weighing 90 kgs, on routine ultrasound abdomen was diagnosed to have liver cancer. On complete workup it was found to be localized on one side of the liver. Since she was overweight and known patient of chronic liver disease with early sign of failure a keyhole surgery was thought to be ideal.

Dr Jalaluddin Akbar, oncosurgeon said that the minimal invasive surgery was conducted at  Unity Hospital doctors by Dr Ashfaque Mohammed who has more than a decade long experience and expertise in laparoscopic surgeries.

Dr Akbar also said that  Unity Hospital has  state-of-the-art ultra modern operation theatres and tertiary care post operative ICU care  along with skilled and competent surgeons.

The main advantages of key- hole surgeries being Minimal post operative lung complications, small scar post operatively, less pain, early mobilization of the patient, very short hospital stay and early return to work, he said.The hospital also plans to introduce Robotic surgery which is very expensive, he said.
