Union Railway Minister flags off three trains in city

Mangalore: Three  new trains Mangalore Central – Madgaon Inter-city Express, Mangalore-Kachiguda biweekly Express and Mangalore-Bhatkal DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) were flagged off by Union Minister for Railways Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday February 23.

Addressing the gathering at Mangalore Central railway station, Kharge said that the initiation is made to connect the coastal region to other parts. Even the interim budget has proposed 75 new trains which will commence services by June 2014, he further added.

With regards to the trains between Mangalore and Bangalore, he said that two trains are running in the given route and due to technical limitations more trains cannot be added until clearance is given from the commissioner of railway safety department.

District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hegde and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel also addressed the audience on the occasion and spoke with regards to the development and issue pertaining to the  railways.

Rakesh Mishra, General Manager of Southern Railway,  Legislators Mohiuddin Bava, J R Lobo, MLC Monappa Bhandary and others were present.

Grand Welcome in Udupi: The Mangalore Central – Madgaon Inter-city Express and Mangalore-Bhatkal DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) which were flagged off from Mangalore station, received a grand  welcome on their arrival  at Udupi Railway Station on Sunday February 23.

The President of Railway Yathri Sangha R L Dias addressed the gathering during the occasion. The  Sangha has been working  hard to facilitate the railway needs of the public in the district.

MLA Pramod Madhwaraj said that due to the efforts of the Railway Yathri Sangha the district is witnessing launching of the intercity trains. Efforts will be made to provide  better facilities at the Railway Station, he said.

Muhammad, Shekhar, John Sobhann, Ramachandra Acharya, Ajit Shenoy, Idvin Pinto, U Damodar and others were present.
