Ullal: Local swimmers rescued three women from drowning at Mogaveerpatna in Ullal on Friday afternoon, October 16. Two of the women are from Bengaluru and one is from Madikeri.

The rescued are Noorjahan (45), Nafiya (30), residents of Ramachandrapur, Bengaluru and their relative Khairunnisa (28), hailing from Madikeri.
A family of 10 had arrived at the Sayyed Madani Dargah in Ullal post after which they visited the beach nearby. While splashing around in the water, the three women were pulled in because of the high tides and strong currents. On noticing this, local swimmers namely Deekshith Karkera, Shivan Bangera, Dhanraj Putran, Roshan Suvarna, Sudheer and Kishore jumped into the sea and brought the trio to the bay after a brisk operation that lasted for almost half-an-hour.
While Noorjahan and Khairunnisa have been hospitalized in Thokkottu, Nafiya, whose condition is said to be critical, has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
In the event of communal clashes being on the rise in Dakshina Kannada, this humanitarian act by the Mogaveer swimmers has attracted great praise from the locals.
