Ullal assault case: CCB police nab four offenders

Mangalore: The city crime branch (CCB) police arrested four persons in connection with the assault case on a tempo driver in Ullal police station limits.

Austin Monteiro (28), tempo driver, a resident of Uliya, was attacked by a group of men in an incident of road rage few days ago.

Arfan alias Appu (25), a resident of Someshwar, Jafar Sadik (20), a resident of Ullala, Jalal alias Jalaluddin (28), a resident of Melangady, and Muzzambil (22) of Talapady are the arrested.

Austin Monteiro had parked his tempo rickshaw at Azad Nagar for unloading mud when a group of men in a black car demanded that he move his tempo. The men later intentionally entangled themselves in fight by forcibly parking their car in front of the tempo. Later the group assaulted Austin and also used a knife that was in their car to inflict injuries to Austin, who was lucky to escape the knife attack with minor injuries.

The CCB police with cooperation of Sullia police intercepted the car near Kallugundi in Sullia and arrested the accused when they were attempting to flee to Mysuru via Madikeri.

Police seized the black Alto car used in the crime, and also a similar car used for the getaway. The arrested have been handed over to Ullal police for further investigation.
