U T Khader: Fr Muller hospital deserves national award

Mangaluru: The Golden Jubilee of Fr Muller Rehabilitation unit and the post-centenary Silver Jubilee of St Joseph Leprosy hospital were celebrated here on April 11, here at the Academy hall.

Mangalore Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’souza inaugurated the programme.

Vimala Patel, Joint Director and State Leprosy Officer applauded the service rendered by Fr Muller Hospital. “Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi too took care of leprosy patients as their own likewise the hospital as well has been contributing selfless service”, she mentioned.

The officer also assured that the hospital would be recommended for President’s award for its selfless service.

U T Khader who was the chief guest, addressing the gathering said, “Fr Muller offers true service to the people, they take care of leprosy patients who are deserted by their families and society. The hospital deserves national award”, he added.

On the occasion he mentioned that the, Accident Insurance scheme, will be launched on April 15 by the Chief Minister. The scheme will deliver a financial aid of Rs 25000 to the victims at the first 48 hours of accident. Bike ambulances also will be launched across the state.

Bishop in his presidential address said, “Service towards leprosy patients is a God’s work, any normal being will not come to serve such people, whom the society does not accept.” He also applauded the work done of Sisters of Charity.

U T Khadar and Vimala Patil felicitated bishop, who is the president of Father Muller Charitable Institutions. On the occasion, doctors former and senior staff those who served in the Rehabilitation unit as well as in the leprosy hospital for many years were honoured. A souvenir made by two doctors of the hospital was released by the dignitaries.

Dr Sr Matilda Monteiro, Provincial Superior of Sisters of Charity, Mangaluru province also addressed the gathering. The hospital director Fr Patrick Rodrigues welcomed the gathering.

Administrator Fr Richard Coelho, doctors, staff and students were present.
