Two youth assaulted in Ullal; role of sand mafia suspected

Ullal: A gang of over 25 men launched a failed attempt to kill two youth on Saturday night in Ullal police station limits.

The two who were assaulted have been identified as Nifan (21) from Bandikotya and Haneef (21) from Mukkacheri. Both are electricians by profession.

It is alleged that over 25 men including Sharief, Imthiyaz, Irshad, Hakeem and others tried to kill the two using lethal weapons.

It is said that Nifan and Haneef were heading towards Ullal on work on their Activa, when a sand-laden lorry first knocked their scooter. The two rolled over on the ground due to the collision, but before they could stand on their feet, a gang of 20 men assaulted them using clubs, sticks and rods and fled the scene with Rs 25,000.

One of the accused identified as Sharief alias Charukutti has played role in several clashes in Ullal area and is now said to be running a sand mafia. Some days ago a gang had barged into residence of Nifan and issued threat to his family members too. While the reason behind the enmity has not yet been confirmed, a complaint has been registered by Nifan’s father Siddiq Ullal.
