Sullia: Birthday outing turned tragic as two medical students died after drowning in Devaragundi falls at Todikana here on Thursday, Dec 31.

The deceased are identified as Ashish (21), hailing from Bengaluru and Sudhir (20) from Andhra. Both were students of KVG Medical College here.

It is learnt that nine friends had been to the water falls to celebrate Ashish’s birthday. Ashish, while washing is face, lost control and was washed away by the water current. Sudhir, who jumped to rescue him also drowned. Though the rest cried for help, their voices couldn’t be heard by anyone as it was an interior area. Later, swimming experts fished out the bodies.
Sullia and Bhagamandala arrived at the spot and shifted the bodies to a hospital in Madikeri for autopsy.

Sullia police have registered a case.
