Two foreigners fall in love in India, enter wedlock in ‘desi’ style

Sullia: The love between Garry, a Briton and Cecelia, a Swede culminated into marriage as per the Indian customs at Sullia, 90 kms from Mangaluru on Sunday. The couples entered wedlock, amidst hundreds of villagers and to the media glares.

Cecelia, a research student from Sweden was serving as an honorary teacher in spoken English at Sneha School, Sullia for four months in 2012. During her visit to Goa, she met Garry, a Briton. Both of them gradually developed love for each other in India. Later, the foreigners showed interest to get married in accordance with the Hindu customs and approached school management.

On Sunday, the villagers and the school reciprocated to their wish and arranged a wedding, which was witnessed by the people of Sullia. At 11.40am, the couple tied the knot.  Meantime, Dr. Pare explained the importance of vedic mantras and rituals in English to the bride and groom.

Besides, the absence of bride and groom’s family was not visible, as the large crowd actively took part, considering it was one of their family functions. Madhusudan and Lata Kumbhagodu couple of the Kasturi group represented Gary’s parents, while Girish Bharadhwaj, the award-winning champion of hanging bridges, played the ‘maternal uncle’.

Later, Madhusudan and Lata couple hosted a dinner for the newlyweds. Hundreds of students and alumni of the school, local leaders were present.
