Mumbai/Mangaluru: In the Dussehra-eve tragedy, two natives of Dakshina Kannada were among the 22 killed in a stampede on a narrow railway foot overbridge connecting the Parel-Elphinstone Road stations of Western Railway here on September 29.
The women have been identified as Sumalatha Shetty (45) and Sujatha Alva (42). The two deceased were the members of Bunts Sangha Mumbai Kurla-Bhandup local committee.
Both were the residents of Nehrunagar, Kanjurmarg in Mumbai.
Sumalatha Shetty hails from Madman, Pademane and was the daughter of Krishna Shetty of Kadandale Hoigemane. Sumalatha is survived by her daughter and husband Chandrashekhara Shetty.
Sujatha Alva hails from Vamanjoor and is survived by her husband Purushotham, a senior officer at income tax department and two daughters.
