Mangaluru: After nearly two decades of its demolition, one of the city’s famed landmarks- the ‘Clock tower’, located near Town Hall here, will be reconstructed as per a revised Smart City project plan at the behest of city Mayor Kavitha Sanil.

Estimated to be built at a cost of Rs 90 lakh, the 21-meter high clock tower project did not find any mention in the initial Smart City project plan. However, thanks to Sanil, the clock tower – a soon to be attraction in the city’s skyline – will be constructed at a spot adjacent to where the old tower once stood, before it was demolished for the widening of the roads.

Set against the background of a small flower garden, the tower with four giant clocks affixed on each of its high rising walls, will be a glorious inclusion in the city’s skyline, of which it was once very much a part.

Reportedly, the mayor has insisted on a speedy execution of the project, blueprints for which have been drawn up and tenders are being sought.
