Mangaluru: Two Bengalureans have recently been arrested by Urwa police for using Facebook to befriend a Mangaluru man and blackmail him. One of the arrested accused is even said to have posed as a woman in order to ensnare the man. This fact came to light only after the arrest was made.

The arrested accused have been identified as Ashwin (19), from Subedarpalya near Yeshwanthpur and Arun HS (27), a resident of Kanakapur Basaveshwara Nagar. The two were brought to Mangaluru for questioning by the Urwa police.

Ashwin created a profile on Facebook under the name Aradhya and posted photos of a young woman. He then befriended the young Mangalurean and managed to procure his nude photos. Using these photos, the duo were able to extort a total of Rs 65,000 from the victim. They also threatened the youth saying that they had connections with politicians and police officers.

The two were arrested by the Urwa police near the Columbia Asia Hospital in Bengaluru, following a complaint filed by the victim.
