Mangalore: A chain-like accidents took place near St Agnes College in Bendore on Thursday July 3, inviting the ire  of the locals who blamed the change in the traffic movement initiated by the Mangalore traffic police, few days ago.

For better or for worse, the diversion and the one-way has been creating a lot of confusion among the people, alleged the locals.

According to the changes made the road leading towards Bendorewell Circle from St Agnes is  converted into one-way. The stretch has two lanes with a divider in between.

As  no oncoming traffic is now allowed on this road, vehicles use both the lanes for moving towards Bendorewell Circle. However Near Kumar International Hotel, there is a road deviating to the right. At this turn, there is no road divider to facilitate vehicles to take a turn and move on this road.

A Renault Duster car took a right turn here when it collided with Maruti 800. Both the vehicles were damaged.

At an instant, a motor bike turned right at the same location and was hit by a KSRTC bus moving on the other lane.

The injured bike rider has identified as 54-year-old Mangal Kumar. He was badly injured and was admitted Colaco Hospital for treatment.

These accidents occurred because of the fact that no barricades were put up at this point to stop vehicles from taking a right turn, even after enforcing one-way traffic. The policemen have since placed barricades to avoid further accidents.

Traffic on the road got blocked for about 30 minutes as the locals agitated against the new move. The police led by A D Nagaraj, traffic police sub-inspector  had to struggle to restore normalcy.

Cases have been registered at Kadri police station.
