Mangalore: A long standing tree fell on a house behind Kadri bus stand at 11.30 pm in the night, causing severe loss to the house owner. The House owner then called the fire services and other officials of the corporation early on Thursday morning July 10.

The house owner has been identified as Prathibha Nambiar, who resides along with her family in the house. No casualties were reported although the house has been severely damaged. Prathibha blamed the corporation for the incident. She alleged that even after making several complaints the MCC did not cut the tree or take any action.

Speaking to News Karnataka, Prathibha said, “This house is on my father’s name T G Nambiar and we have been living here for a very long time. The tree which is almost 40-year-old now,  was at the verge to collapse.” “I had informed the MCC officials to cut the tree, but they sent the electricity department who just cut a few branches on the opposite side where there were wires. Thus I again complained however on the second time the corporation told Prathibha to complaint to the Forest department as permission is required from them”, explained Prathibha.

Weary with the situation Prathibha then suggested to the corporation along with the forest department that she would spend the money on cutting the tree, however if the corporation could just give her the permission, but her efforts were in vain as she received no response.

Blaming the MCC, Prathibha demanded that her loss must be redeemed by the corporation itself.

On the other hand the deputy forest officer, Ashwith stated that he has not received any complaint till date.He said, “If we had got a complaint, we would surely have removed the tree, however no such complaint was received. There are several such trees under the corporation limits and he have always responded to the people’s complaints, asserted Ashwith.

The fire service team was called in the morning at 8.45 am. The team headed by District Fire Officer Shivappa Gowda cleared the place.

Congress corporator Sabitha Misquith and Kadri Corporator DK Ashok Kumar were present. The traffic was blocked for some time.
