Treasure hunt case: Five fall in police net

Bantwal: As many as five persons have been arrested in connection to attack on two family members at Arasalike in Korapady village in a bid to locate a hidden treasure.

It may be recalled that a gang had barged into the residence of Vighnaraja Bhat during wee hours of January 24, bound Bhat and his nephew, tortured them and also dug up pockets of their property in search of a hidden treasure.

However, in a major breakthrough, the cops arrested five persons on February 4.
The arrested are Poyyakanda Iqbal (22) from Kanyana. Mohommed Ali (29) from Korapady, Abbas from Mundkoor, Ashraf (21) from Kolnadu and AShiq (19) from Bayikatte.

Meanwhile, Shafie from Paivalike, Chotu Shafie from Kerala, HAris from Mittanadka and others have been absconding.

The gang wanted to strike gold following some astrological speculations, however, after all the planning, they returned empty-handed after they could not locate the treasure in Bhat’s property.

The cops, on concrete information about the whereabouts of the gang visited places in Kasargod, Kumbla, Paivalike, Manjeshwar and nearby areas and arrested the five and also seized two vehicles.
