Traffic cops crack down on shrill horns in the city

Mangaluru: Residents may soon get relief from noise pollution caused by motor vehicles in and around the city, especially through cars and bikes. The Mangaluru City Police have started cracking down on vehicles, especially buses using high decibel horns in the city.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said that the department will hold a series of drive against shrill horns. “We have been during it regularly since a week. Today, we intercepted over 35 buses near Light House Hill and fined more than 26 buses”, he said.

The department has received a lot of complaint from the public on the noise pollution caused by motorists. Hence, we are directed to take strict against those who use high decibel horns, he further added.

“Not just buses, but all vehicles are being checked and fined for various violations, including use of shrill horns, not having licence or insurance, not wearing seat belts etc,” he added.

Guru Kamath, traffic police inspector, who was part of the drive, said they intercepted vehicles moving towards Lalbagh. We will choose different locations on each day, he added.
