Torrential Rains causes Havoc in Kodagu

Madikeri: The torrential rains across Kodagu district indeed caused widespread destruction in farmlands. The torrential rains that are lashing since the past 2 weeks damaged the roads, electric poles and washed away livestock. Several villages are marooned due to floods.

The landslides on the roads and fields are common.  The barrier wall besides the road at Shirangalli of Madhapura to Soorlabbi was collapsed.  The poles collapsed en route Garvale – Soorlabi Road, and snapped power supply.  The paddy fields located in Muttlu village that is located on left side on the way to Soorlabbi were inundated.  The cattle stock perished in torrential rains coupled with heavy gales. The rivulets, streams and water falls are overflowing, thereby hindering farming activities.  Coffee crop has been affected with rotting menace.

The district administration has been distributing compensation under natural calamities fund, for the loss of human lives and cattle.  The gruel centers were opened in Nelyahudikeri, Karadigodu, Monnangeri, Napoklu including Madikeri town, in order to accommodate the displaced families due to floods.  The boats are ferring the stranded people in Bhagalamandala.  Makkandloor zilla panchayat member Shanteyanda Ravi Kushalappa, Madikeri taluk Tahsildar Anil Kumar, Galibeedu gram panchayat member Subash Somayya visited the flood affected regions of Muttlu, Hammiyala.  Over 200 acres of paddy crop was destroyed in the limits of Muttlu village.
