Mangaluru: In a joint press conference on Wednesday, DYFI, Dalit Sangharsha Committee, SFI along with other associations urged the state government to form a special enquiry team to investigate the murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga.

It may be recalled that Vinayak Baliga was murdered on March 21 by unknown assailants at Kodialbail.
President of Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations Prof. Narendra Nayak, addressing the mediapersons said that in this murder case there seems to be involvement of political bigwigs as the RTI activist had exposed several scams in the city.
“There was court hearing regarding the financial irregularities in Vekantaramana temple on April 2. Vinayak Baliga had challenged certain people involved in the management of the temple and the money spent for renovation. He had demanded that the old audits be re-audited. He never did anything for his personal benefit,” he said.
“He was a devout GSB. Not even one of his community members spoke up when he was killed. Where is the so called moral police now? There should be a top level enquiry lead by IAS officers in this case. We will fight till we get justice,” he added.
Vinayak Baliga’s mother Jayanti Baliga said that she had lost her son and now there’s no one to help them financially.
Ganesh Baliga who was associated with Vinayak Baliga in the Venkataramana temple case said that both of them were spending from their pockets for fighting the case with the only motive of having transparency in the temple affairs.
“Now with an RTI activist killed, we feel that we are not safe,” he said.
DYFI President, Muneer Katipalla said that he has faith in the ongoing police investigation, but still demand a special enquiry team who can come out with the truth.
“Police have arrested two people who killed Vinayak on the behest of someone. We want a special enquiry team who can arrest the person who hired them,” he said.
Bereaved kin of deceased Vinayak Baliga, DYFI district secretary Santosh Bajal and members of various associations were present.
