Mangalore: Bunty a-five-year-old tigress was killed by her mating partner Kumar a-seven-year-old tiger at Pilikula Biological Park on Monday October 13.

According to HJ Jayaprakash Bhandary – director of the park, Kumar attacked Bunty at about 4 pm and injured her severely around the neck. The wound was deep; treatment was given however the tigress succumbed to her wounds.

The attack had taken place in the display enclosure where visitors could see the tigers. The two were seen mating in the forenoon in the display enclosure. The attack could be linked to mating, he said.

Bhandary said that after the mating session in the forenoon, the tigress probably could have got tired and become non-cooperative. This could have angered the tiger that may have resulted attack.
