Mangalore: The Mangalore City Traffic Police (MCTP) has brought into effect a new one-way rule from Monday June 30, to make Balmatta Road free of congestion.

MCTP on a trial basis has designated three roads for one-way traffic. The idea is of having a one-way triangle sans traffic cops or lights to facilitate smooth flow of traffic, stated Mangalore city Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Uday Nayak.
After the success of Hamapankatta road, this new move of making a triangular way will facilitate an easy flow for the traffic in the city, although people will on another hand be compelled to take a longer route.

The new one-ways in the city:
Vehicles from Balmatta Circle which were earlier moving towards Bendorewell Junction will now have to go to Horticulture Junction via SCS Hospital Road, take a right turn and proceed towards Bendorewell Junction.
Vehicles coming from Karavali Junction (Kankanady Circle) which were moving towards Colaco Hospital and Horticulture Junction, by taking a right turn, will now have to move on the Bendorewell Junction to Balmatta Junction Road and take the SCS Hospital Road.
Likewise, vehicles which were earlier taking the Horticulture Junction, SCS Road towards Balmatta Circle will have to go to Bendorewell Junction, take a right and go to Balmatta Circle.
