Bantwal: A 14 year old boy who went for swimming along with two friends to a private pond had a watery grave here on Sunday.

Pavan Raj (14), son of Appayya Salian who did not know swimming drowned in a pond near Marakkini in Adyanadka on Sunday.

The incident took place here on Sunday when Sunil (16), son of Shivarama Bangera, Pavan Raj (14), and Prajwal (13), while returning from town entered a private pond for swimming without permission. Three of them did not know swimming got into the water, while Pavan Raj moved further and drowned. The pond owner soon informed fire service and vittal police.

The body was recovered with the help of professional swimmer Partha Varanasi. Puttur fire brigade head Mutthappa Gowda, staff Ishwara P, Sathish, driver Ananda were present.

Vittal sub inspector Prakash Devadiga and staff visited the spot and further investigation is on.
