Mangaluru: During a recent Citizenship (Amendment) Act awareness rally in the city, attended by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, some of the participants were heard shouting out death threats against MLA U T Khader. Now, close on the heels of this incident, Dakshina Kannada district Congress president and MLC Hareesh Kumar urged the police department to file a suo moto case against the accused.
Addressing the reporters here on Wednesday, January 29, Kumar said that some youths had threatened to murder Khader during the rally, which has gone viral on social media. “The police department should take it up as a serious issue and file a suo motto case against such youths. If Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha fails to take appropriate measures against the miscreants, the district Congress will stage a dharna in front of his office,” he said.
Listing the developmental works undertaken during the Congress’s regime in the state, Kumar said, “The Congress-led government took up many developmental works during its administration. But the BJP government is busy dividing the people and has neglected the welfare of the state. BJP leaders should follow the Constitution instead of preaching about patriotism,” he added.
