Thief who targeted houses on Saturdays lands in police net; booty worth Rs 7 lac seized

Mangaluru: A thief wanted in several theft cases was successfully nabbed by the Puttur police on May 20.

Thangaraju alias Raju (64) of Hosabettu, Kasargodu is the arrested person. As per police a total of 28 theft cases in Udupi, 10 in Palakkad and one in Kushalnagar stand registered against him. Thangaraju had a strange modus operandi of targeting houses only on Saturdays.

Superintendent of Police Bhooshan Gulabrao Borase in a press meet said that gold and silver worth Rs 7,00,000 has been recovered by the police from Erode in Tamilnadu, Calicut in Kerala and Puttur in Dakshina Kannada.

A total of 230.24 gram of gold of Rs 6,20,000 and 2.285 kg of silver worth Rs 80,000 has been recovered.

A team led by ASP Rishyanth, Mahesh Prasad, Inspector Puttur town police station, Abdul Khader, Sub-Inspector, Nagaraj H E Sub-Inspector, Puttur town police station and others carried out the operation.
