Mangaluru: False information telling labourers that the labour department has deposited Rs 2000 into their bank accounts led many to violate the lockdown guidelines in Kuloor on Wednesday, April 15.
Hundreds of people were seen thronging in front of a private building named ‘Deviprasad’ located in Kuloor on Wednesday morning at around 11.30 am. Some of them neither wore masks nor maintained social distance. When asked why they had made a beeline in front of the building, the labourers said that some people are collecting information from them to deposit Rs 2000 in their bank accounts.
However, neither the police department nor the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) had received any informed about such an event organised by the labour department.
When those who were collecting the labourers’ information and bank details were questioned, that said that the labour department had only them to gather the information of the labourers and were clueless about the depositing of Rs 2000 into their bank accounts.
Later, a labour officer who came to the spot also clarified that they do not intend to deposit money into the labourers’ accounts.
When those who were waiting in the queue from 11.30 am to 3.30 pm found out that no money was being deposited into their accounts, they dispersed from the area.
