Ullal: In an incident which took place on the night of Friday, June 17 near Mudipu, a group of thieves in a Scorpio car, looted money and valuables from a tailor after kidnapping him.

The tailor identified as Dharanappa Poojary (42) hails from Mani. He lives at a rented house at Mudipu junction and owns a tailoring shop named D M Tailors. It is alleged that around 9.30 pm a stranger in a car visited his shop requesting him to stitch a pair of trousers.
Since the shop was closed, Dharanappa went near the car to enquire. He was reportedly pulled inside by the stranger and three others present in the car and kidnapped.
Dharanappa’s wife Jayalakshmi registered a case at Konaje police station on Friday night.
What had happened after the kidnap?
Dharanappa was found admitted in a government hospital at Puttur. According to him, he was taken by the kidnappers to Kerala from Mudipu and then bought back to Mangaluru. The kidnappers saw police checking motorists near Uppinangady and so diverted their car towards Puttur. They assaulted him and looted RS 10,000 in cash and also a gold chain. The kidnappers then threw Dharanappa out of the car.
“As it was dark, I couldn’t recognize the place. So I slept in a bus stand and got admitted to Puttur government hospital in the morning,” said Dharanappa.
Police suspects the involvement of a notorious criminal Rafeeque in the incident. The investigation is in progress.
