Swine Flu (H1N1) claims life of pregnant woman

Mangaluru: In an unfortunate incident, Swine Flu (H1N1) claimed life of a pregnant woman in the district.

The victim is identified as Pushpavathi (27), wife of Purushotham from Yedapadavu near Moodbidri. She was working as data entry operator at Venoor Gram Panchgayath.

It is said that Pushpavathi contacted the infection when she was eight months pregnant and immediately the doctors treating her in a private hospital in Mangaluru forwarded her for a Cesarean section as it is said to be detrimental to administer medication for the flu with foetus in womb. However, despite attempts Pushpavathi breathed her last on July 30 after battling for life for ten days. The infant has been kept in the incubator.

Since financial condition of Pushpavathi is not healthy, the members of the Karnataka State Gram Panchayat Employees Welfare Association collected Rs 2 lakhs.

Victim is survived by mother, husband, five elder sisters and a brother.
