SVDP Youth Wing formed; extends helping hand to 25 poor students

Mangalore: The Society of St Vincent De Paul, the St Francis Assisi Area Council, Mangalore formed its youth wing to mark its silver jubilee. The Youth Wing has also decided to help nearly 25 students hailing from economically backward classes in pursuing their education.

The 25 student beneficiaries chosen by the youth wing of the Society of St Vincent De Paul were symbolically handed over prayer books by Mangalore Bishop Rev. Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, at a ceremony held at the Guardian Angel Church Hall on August 11, Sunday.

The Bishop, who also spoke on the occasion, said the Society of St Vincent De Paul was rendering yeoman service to the mankind and said the gesture of extending educational aid to the needy students too is praiseworthy.

The Bishop also released a souvenir to mark the occasion.

Francis D’Souza, Spiritual Director of SVDP  in  his address said the Society aims to serve the poor and underprivileged in the society and added it considers itself as messengers of peace,

Fr Mathew, Parish Priest of Angelore Church, was also present on the dais.Members who have served the association since its inception were honoured. Also the members of Association belonging to Bondel Church were felicitated for having maximum members.

Tributes were also paid to BL Frederic Ozanam, Founder of SVDP on the occasion of is bi-centenary birth anniversary. Sunil Vas, Regional Council President, Albert Sequeira, Central Council Member and others were present on the  occasion.
