Belthangady: Belthangady Police who are investigating into the case of suspicious death of a youth who had gone fishing with his friends at Paduvettu near Ujire on Thursday July 12 night have taken two persons into custody for questioning.

Mahesh Naika (25), son of Manjappa Naika of Ujire was reportedly electrocuted while he had gone fishing with a neighbouring youth Rajesh at Ichchavupadavu. If Rajesh had returned home late in the night, Mahesh was not to be seen and his family searched for him in the morning when his body was found near the Pump House of the fields of Paduvettu Babu Gowda. His shoulder bore injury marks and at the outset it seemed he was electrocuted. Even an electric cable connecting the pump house was found snapped.
Mahesh’s father in his complaint to Belthangady Police has alleged that this was not an accidental death but a murder.
The Belthangady Police took Rajesh into custody when he reportedly told that while they were walking in the dark, Mahesh came into contact with an electric trap laid for wild animals and that Rajesh tried to cut off the fencing with his scythe when it accidentally hit Mahesh. Fearing worse, Rajesh had reportedly returned home. The next morning, fearing he would be trapped, Rajesh along with Mahesh Gowda another youth reportedly shifted the body to another place and spread a snapped electric wire on his body.
Investigations are progressing.
