Mangaluru: Members of Student’s Federation of India on Saturday held a demonstration in front of Mangaluru University’s administrative block, urging to withdraw examinations based on odd and even semester system.

Addressing the protestors, Nithin Kuthar, one of the students said according to the existing procedure, any student who fails in the odd semester is not allowed to write exam in the even semester. For example: If a student fails in the 2nd semester, he/she can clear the exam on the 4th semester and cannot write in the 3rd semester. If affects student especially, if he/she fails in the 5th semester as the student has to wait for one more year, he added.

Mr. Kuthar said that the university should allow the student to write the subject, in which he failed, in the subsequent exam. It will benefit the student, especially those students who concentrate in extracurricular activities.

Accepting the memorandum from the students, Prof. B. Narayana, Registrar (Evaluation) said many students in the past had expressed their resentment over the same issue. We forwarded their pleas to the government. The university does not have any right to change the existing system. The issue is before the government. We are awaiting the order, he told the students.
