Ullal: The postgraduate (PG) students of Mangaluru University held a protest over the confusion and delay in exam results here on May 6.
The students protested near science block of the University building, but were not satisfied by the registrar of evaluations’s response, hence, they moved to administrative block and sought the Vice-chancellor’s reply.

It is learnt that the results of half of the University students has been declared and the other half is yet to be still pending.

The results have been delayed for over two months and that too is full of confusion. The protesters alleged that those who are supposed to create a better future for the students have failed to impart justice.

Rohan, a student said, “There is no doubt that Mangaluru University too would follow the suit of MSOU, which has lost UGC approval for declaring fake results by taking money from private institutions. The future of students who are hoping to finish their studies and get jobs is uncertain. Do not make promises like that of politicians. Act like teachers and solve the confusion regarding the results. When we asked the registrar of evaluations, he said that the papers have mixed up and also that he is not sure whether the results which were declared earlier are authentic or not. This is not a protest against the professors or University, but it is against the administrative officers. Already the time for the fourth semester exams are near, yet the exam time table has not been announced,” he complained.

Bowing down to pressure from the students, the registrar of evaluations M A Khan arrived to the protest spot. The students and officers got into a verbal spat when the vice-chancellor asked not to use a microphone.

Registrar of evaluations M A Khan assured that the confusion regarding the results will be sorted out within May 16 and asked the students not to protest.

“Why results have been delayed even though there was an assurance to declare the pending results within 15 days? Why has it not been declared even after four months? Why the bar coding was not done for the exams conducted in December?” the students asked.

“When there was confusion on graduation results, the varsity had cited software problem for the same. But now, even the postgraduate students are facing a similar situation. The administrative board imposes a fine of Rs 200 on students if there is delay in paying the exam fee. Now the lapse was due to them. Are they going to fine the students now? We are unable to make the subject choices for the third semester as the results have not been declared yet,” they complained.

The registrar of evaluations asked the students not to discuss these issues in public and left the spot without responding to the students’ queries.

The students promised to continue the protest until the vice-chancellor assured to take action. The vice-chancellor didn’t arrive at the spot and the students continued to protest. The protest was held under Niranjan and Puneeth, students of the varsity.
