Sullia: Schools have re-opened but at Katta Govindnagar School at Kallamogru in Sullia none of the students have been attending classes. There is only one teacher who has been turning up at the school every day.
Everything was going on well at this school till one of the two teachers was transferred to another school nearby.
There were 24 students in the school and two teachers. But, a recent decision of the Education Officer to transfer one of the teachers irked the students to the extent that they have decided to remain away from school.
The students and parents are of the opinion that only one teacher cannot be conducting classes for the existing students and hence if the department is not serious about the future of the students there is no point sending the students to the school.
Protesting against the decision of the department, the parents have stopped sending their children to school over the last six days. The fact that no arrangements have been made by the department to fill in the vacant post has further irked the parents.
This is the only government primary school in the region and students from about five to six villages come here. The school has first to fifth standard functioning here.
The school has majority number of SC/ST students. With the centenary year celebration approaching next year, the parents of the students wonder if the department is mulling to pull down the shutters of the school soon.
