Mangaluru: Soon after rumours and misguided statements were spread on social media as alleged actual statements by the Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of the Dakshina Kannada district, compol Dr P S Harsha warned of stringent action against miscreants.

Harsha appealed to the public not to believe false rumours and only seriously messages if they have been published on official channels. He added that people can believe signed press notes or tweets made on official Twitter handles.

It can be noted that a lot of rumours and misguided statements have been shared on WhatsApp regarding coronavirus. The miscreants who wrote the messages claimed that they were made by the compol, DC and other public officials. The police department has already registered a criminal case in this regard and an investigation is underway.

Reportedly, there was a rumour that the DC had ordered everyone to fulfil the requirements of the retailers in the Dakshina Kannada district and that the shops can be open till evening on Monday. This was, however, proven to be false and was created by miscreants to misguide the public.
