Mangalore: The Street Vendors Association affiliated to the CITU staged a protest on Monday June 30 opposing against the bull dozing of several petty shops and eviction of street vendors in the city recently.

The President of the Street Vendors Association, Sunil Kumar Bajal  who addressed the agitators referred to the Street Vendors’ Bill passed in 2012  and the directive to the administration to implement the guidelines under the Bill. Though a Town Vendors Committee was formed and at its first meet the DC had  asked to hold a survey to issue ID cards and provide various benefits, nothing much has been done, Sunil Kumar said.

But now the MCC officials are evicting street vendors without taking the committee into confidence, he alleged. He further charged the MCC of being biased towards the poor  while not initiating action against the rich who flout rules.

Mohammed Mustafa, Santhosh Kumar and several others are participating in the protest which will be held till evening.
