State government to launch science centres in all districts

Mangaluru: With an aim to internalise scientific knowledge among the students, the Karnataka State government will launch a science centre in each district of the state.

Speaking to reporters on March 1, M R Seetharam, State Minister for Statistics, Planning, Science and Technology said that except for Mandya, Kolar, Chitradurga and Ramanagar, the construction work of regional science centres were in progress. He also said that the government was preparing a proposal to start the regional science centers in the aforementioned places as well.

“We have already launched the regional science centres in Mangaluru and Dharwad. The construction work of the centre in Mysuru is in progress. The government has already launched sub-regional science centres in Bidar, Bellary, Raichur, and Karwar. The construction work of the sub-regional science centres in Chikkaballapura, Koppala, Haveri, Bagalkot, Davangere and Gadag are also in progress”, said the minister.

He also added that the state government would launch regional centres in all the districts of Karnataka.

He also informed that the planetarium constructed at a cost of Rs 22 Crore in Hubli was in the final stages of completion and would be inaugurated next year. The state government has allotted Rs 3 Crore in the budget to start a planetarium in Belgavi.

Elaborating on the planetariums, he said that the state government had already launched five mobile planetariums and in the coming days would launch seven mobile planetariums to educate the young students on astronomy.
