The State Election Commission (SEC) has granted clearance for the Karnataka state government to cover the medical expenses of Chandini G D, a 33-year-old woman from Dakshina Kannada, who is undergoing treatment for a rare disease. Chandini, a resident of Gandhinagara in Sullia, is battling anaphylaxis, a severe and life-threatening allergic reaction, and is currently receiving treatment at AIG Hospitals in Hyderabad.
Following Chandini’s request, the SEC has communicated with the state’s chief secretary, urging the government to provide medical assistance to her under the CM’s Relief Fund. The SEC has emphasized that direct payment to hospitals from the relief fund, instead of cash payments to individual patients, is permissible without consultation with the commission, provided it adheres to the model code of conduct.
In response to the SEC’s directive, the joint secretary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, PA Gopal, has written to AIG Hospitals in Hyderabad, where Chandini is receiving treatment. The letter states that the SEC has instructed to re-examine the case and take necessary action for financial assistance. Based on the estimated treatment cost of Rs 8 lakh, a commitment letter of Rs 4 lakh has been issued from the CM’s Relief Fund, with approval from the Election Commission and senior government officials.
The committed amount will be transferred to the hospital’s bank account through RTGS upon submission of bill details to the CM Relief Fund. Chandini, daughter of Dhananjaya Naik, is undergoing treatment for hyper IgE syndrome at AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad.
