Stany Bela nominated for the 2014 LRF Kittall Youth Award

Mangalore: Stany D’Souza who has achieved  literary fame under the  pseudonym Stany  Bela  has been nominated for the 2014 Leo Rodrigues family Kittall youth award for his enormous contribution to Konkani literature in its many forms – short stories, plays, translations, essays and political analysis political analysis .

AbuDhabi’s leading entrepreneur and Konkani  enthusiast and supporter, Leo Rodrigues instituted this award to encourage youth to contribute to Konkani  literature. The award consists of a cash award of Rs: 10000 and a scroll of honour.   Last year promising young writer Wilma Lavina D’Souza, widely known as Wilma, Bantwal in Konkani literary circles, received this award. Bro. JO. C. Siddakate was the first Konkani litterateur to receive this prestigious honor.

The award will be conferred on August 23, 2014 at the Valencia Senate Hall. Leo Rodrigues, the NRI entrepreneur, will preside over the function and hand over the award. Konkani Writer, editor in chief and CMD of daijiworld.com Walter  Nandalike  will be the chief guest.  Renowned Konkani and Kannada Scholar,  Fr Prashanth Madtha will deliver annual lecture  on the topic  “ Society in transition” .

About Stany Bela

Stany Bela born in 1983, graduated from the Kannur University and is currently employed at Jebel Ali, Dubai. He is a versatile writer who has written in many languages – Malayalam, Konkani, Kannada and Tulu. He is the author of fifteen short stories in Kannada and Konkani and has translated three stories from Malayalam to Konkani. He has also written 45 poems, and more than 50 articles, besides being a poet and a dram crtic. His writings have been published Konkani periodicals – Raknno,  BelachoDivo,  Kutaam,  Mahima,  Amcho Yuvak and  Arso  and other Kannada magazines, besides Kavitaa.com,  uzwaad.com  and  kittall.com.

He has written two musical plays, one  on the life of Mother Theresa and the other on awareness on the effects of alcohol.  He has directed a drama based on the biblical parable Prodigal Son. He wrote 9 hymns for Daivik Sandesh produced by Aqua Beats and 3 hymns for DevachoMog, produced by Stephen Crasta.

He is an active member of Daiji Dubai , Konkani Writers Forum, UAE and is the president of EKKU, an association of parishes from Kasaragod Deanery in UAE.

He is married to Veena and the couple has a son,, Sheldon.

 The award jury consisted of  Kavita Trust president, Melvyn Rodrigues, well known critic, Nanu Marol and Kittall Advisory Board Member, Titus Noronha..
