Mangaluru: St Vincent de Paul Society Mangalore central Council Completes one year of its Diamond Jubilee health care project in Association with Fr Muller’s Charitable hospital.

St Vincent de Paul Society popularly known as SSVP is an international fraternal organization of Catholic laypersons who help those in need on a person to person basis and in a spirit of Charity and Justice irrespective of caste creed and religion.

SSVP was founded in Paris France in 1833 by Fredrick Ozanam a 20-year-old law student along with his few fellow students.

SSVP came to Mangalore in 1926. As the conferences increased Mangalore Central Council was formed in 1959. At present we have 112 conferences and have around 1400 members..All the conferences are doing yeoman service to the needy. During the Covid lockdown period, SSVP was in the forefront to help the affected. SSVP conferences spent about Rs 32 lakhs and reached out 4387 families. SSVP Mangalore Central Council celebrated its Diamond jubilee on Nov 3rd 2019. To commemorate this grand occasion SSVP joined with Fr Muller’s Charitable Hospital and inked out a Memorandum to give Comprehensive healthcare to the members of adopted families of our different conference at Fr Muller’s Charitable hospital facilities both in Kankanady and Thumbay.

It caters to the health needs of 631 adopted families comprising 1838 members. These families belong to the whole of Dakshina Kannada and part of the Kasargod district of Kerala. As we found that there are many poor people with Kidney ailments we decided to have a dedicated Kidney care fund for their Dialysis needs. During the last year, the OPD facilities were used by 252 individuals with 672 visits and cost us around Rs 12 lakhs and there were 48 in patients for whom we paid Rs 9.35 Lakhs. The Father Muller Charitable hospital gave concessions to the extent of Rs 10.15 Lakhs. The funds for this project are mostly donations from the members and other philanthropists.

The MOU was renewed for one more year on 29th October by Fr Muller Charitable hospital Director Fr Richard Coelho and SSVP central Council President Joe Coelho.

The SSVP Central Council is very much grateful to the administration and the staff of Fr Muller’s Charitable hospital.
