St. Joseph’s University Holds National Tech Summit TechX 2.0

Bengaluru: TechX2.0 took place on Monday, April 29, at the St. Joseph’s University auditorium.

The event featured four notable figures from the IT industry discussing the significant role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in reshaping our digital landscape and the crucial need for robust cybersecurity measures to protect our technological advancements.

In his opening address, Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, Director of the School of Information Technology, highlighted the advancements in AI over the past seven years.

He outlined the evolution from basic data classification (stage I) to the prominence of Generative AI (stage II), and speculated on the future possibilities of stage III, where machines would exhibit greater intelligence.

Following Fr Lobo, Madhusudan, CEO and Founder of Navigem Data and an alumnus of St. Aloysius College, Mangalore, spoke about the widespread integration of AI into our daily lives.

He emphasized how AI has transcended its former status as mere science fiction to become an essential aspect of modern society.

Despite its potential for improving efficiency and problem-solving, he stressed the ethical and security challenges associated with its proliferation, particularly in cybersecurity.

Naheed addressed the audience on cybersecurity and best practices, underscoring the critical importance of proactive cybersecurity measures in the face of evolving cyber threats.

He advocated for the integration of AI-driven solutions to enhance defense mechanisms, enabling real-time threat detection and predictive analytics to anticipate vulnerabilities.

Dr Madan Srinivasan, CEO and Founder of WISE WORK, delved into futuristic technologies such as the Metaverse and quantum computing, predicting their significant impact on future lifestyles.

He envisioned a world where AI, coupled with advancements like nano-bots and fusion energy, would revolutionize various aspects of human existence, including the job market and space exploration.

Prashanth Baliga, Development Manager at SAP Labs, India, and an alumnus of St. Aloysius High School and College, discussed the transformative effects of AI on our lives and work.

He concluded his presentation by quoting Stephen Hawking, emphasizing the vast potential benefits of AI while acknowledging the uncertainties of its future implications.

St. Joseph’s University, Bangaluru, hosts numerous events organized by its different schools, providing students with ample opportunities to engage in diverse activities and develop essential leadership skills.

Among its offerings, the School of Information Technology provides programs such as BCA, BCA (Data Analytics), MSc (Big Data), MSc (Computer Science), and MCA.

Additionally, SJU plans to introduce an MSc program in AI and Cyber Security in the upcoming academic year, with applications for the course opening in the first week of June.
