St Agnes College celebrates College Day

Mangaluru: St Agnes College,the 94 year old venerated women’s educational institution of Mangaluru,  one of the few that have not turned co ed, celebrated its annual College Day at the college ground, here on February 4. The celebration commenced at 5: 30 pm, with the guests traditionally welcomed and led to their seats, the by the college parade led by the college band, followed by the guard of honour provided by the three wings of the NCC.

The programme began with a prayer song followed by the welcome dance performed by the students. The students displayed an astonishing variety of talents by putting up a breathtaking cultural programme that included dances, skits and songs.

During the course of the evening, a tableau portraying the ‘year of light’, was presented to a running commentary by the students. This was followed by the annual college report, which was conveyed to the large audience through a power point presentation.

In his presidential address, professor K Byrappa – Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University said, “St Agnes College has a long history of excellence and has been delivering quality students”;  He wished the students good luck and congratulated the Agensians for organizing such an amazing evening.

Joint Secretary Sr Dr Maria Roopa AC presided over the programme and gave away the gold medals to the achievers while Professor Sunitha Byrappa – of University of Mysuru was the guest of honor and gave away the special medals.

 The cultural programme was compered by Pamela D’costa – Student President and Nelvita Noronha – Student Vice President. The programme winded up with the college anthem.
