Belthangady: The Koragas living in Atrinje area of Sulkeri village in Belthangady had a guest. The Koraga families who have been living in pathetic state were elated on Wednesday evening because this guest’s gesture made them feel special and valued.
Without proper roads, without any identity, the Koraga families living in Atrinje have tarpaulin sheets for roofs. Dalit leaders who raised the issue of the Koraga families of Atrinje during SC/ST grievances meet held on Wednesday here were taken by surprise when the Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulab Rao Borase decided to visit the village on the very same day.
It was not mere promise. Without any delay, the SP was seen heading to the village and with in no time, he was seen crossing the temporary bridge laid over the roaring river near Atrinje, so that he could meet the residents and have a talk with them.
Most of the residents poured their hearts out to the SP. For them this was an opportunity to make their words heard. Ration card issues, lack of basic facilities were the two main subjects that the local residents brought to the notice of the SP.
The SP promised the locals that he would take up all the issues brought to his notice with the officials concerned and try his level best to make a difference.
The residents of Atrinje were touched by this gesture of the SP, who placed them above all his other commitments and rushed to the remote village to be with them.
