Bangalore : State Home Minister KJ George has said that action will be initiated against the Belthangady sub-inspector Yogish Kumar in case there has been a dereliction of duty on his part while probing the rape and murder case of Ujire SDM College student Sowjanya.
In a written reply to a query by Belthangady MLA Vasanth Bangera in the Assembly, the Minister said already the investigation into the case is complete and an accused named Santosh Rao has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
The Minister also assured to direct the CID Inspector General who is investigating the case to trace the real accused in the case. However, Bangera raised objection to the written reply by the government and said the reply was far from truth. “The act was not committed by a single person. The incident took place when it was raining. Though the place had been searched thoroughly the previous day, the body of Sowjanya was not found but was spotted the next day at the same spot. Though she went missing when it was raining, her books and bag and clothes were not wet,” Bangera pointed out.
Bangera further alleged that the Belthangady SI Yogish Kumar instead of taking possession of the under garments found in the person of the deceased student, had seized the under garments found in the house. Even the chit having two mobile numbers lying beside the body had been taken by the SI and the same has not been mentioned in the report, Bangera said and demanded the suspension of the SI and a probe by an able officer.
