Mangaluru: Expressing confidence, BJP leader Subramaian Swamy reiterated on Saturday that he is hoping to see AICC president Sonia Gandhi in jail this Christmas, who allegedly faces the prospect of conviction in the Rs 5,000 crore National Herald ownership case.
“The court has summoned Ms. Gandhi to appear before the court on December 2, and subsequently she will be in jail by Christmas”, he said.

While delivering a talk on ‘A war against corruption and terrorism’, hosted by Citizen’s Council, Mangaluru, Swamy said Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had fraudulently acquired a public limited company with real estate in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh. The acquired place was meant only for the publication of a newspaper, but it was not used for the same, he said.
“Sonia Gnadhi stands accused in the case, as there are documents with her signature”, he said adding that she cannot escape.
Subramaian Swami who in the past lodged a complaint against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on charges in the disproportionate assets case and succeeded in his attempt said, “If big people, who indulge in corruption go to jail, there will be a fear among ‘small’ people to not to engage in any form of corruption fearing punishment”, he said terming corruption as cancer.
Similarly, former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, who has been questioned by the CBI in the 2G spectrum case as well as sale of Aircel would land in jail soon. “His wife and son too could face legal consequences as well”, he said.
Black money back in six months
Swamy promised that the central government will get the black money which is estimated to be over Rs 120 lakh crores back to India by six months. He said, “India is not short of money and resources but we need men and women with innovation. We need people who can think of innovating new resources and alternative energy. Today, we rely on the U.A.E to import oil, while Japan is trying to source energy from hydrogen fuel to run vehicles”, he said.
