
Mangaluru: Thabassum from Konaje, who has been running an orphanage at Bejai for HIV-infected kids, was presented with the ‘Press Club Annual Award 2020’ here on Saturday, February 29.
The award was presented during the ‘Press Club Day’ programme jointly organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Union (DKDWJU), Mangaluru Press Club, and Patrika Bhavana Trust at Radhakrishna Mandir Urwa. The selection committee comprising Balakrishna Gatty, Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla, and Dr Nagaveni Manchi selected Tabassum for this prestigious award.
Movie actor Roopesh Shetty inaugurated the programme and spoke about how media plays a key role in society as it rectifies the problems of society by shedding light on it. He also wished good luck for the future endeavours of journalists.
As part of the programme, a felicitation ceremony was organised for the Padma Shri-awardee Harekala Hajabba and senior journalist Guruvappa Baalepuni, who brought Hajabba to the limelight through his article
DCP Laxmi Ganesh, Senior Journalist Manohar Prasad, Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Union President Srinivas Nayak Indaje, President Patrika Bhavana Trust Ananda Shetty, and others were present.
