Social worker, politician Judith Mascarenhas no more

Mangaluru: Judith Mary Rita Mascarenhas affectionately called Judy Bai, a well-known social worker, teacher, former deputy mayor and administrator passed away here on January 9.

Judith was bedridden after she suffered a stroke and was under care by the nuns at Jeppu.

Born in Bendoor in 1931, to Aloysius Mascarenhas and Magdalene Mascarenhas, Judith graduated from Madras University. She also served as a teacher at Cambridge School in Bengaluru and in Capitanio, Mangaluru.

She was also the founder president and trustee of “Preethi Neethi Trust” and Link Anti-Addiction Citizens Committee. She has built over 50 houses for the needy and helped the destitute.

Awardee of district Rajyotsava Award in 2015, she has served as Deputy Mayor of MCC twice and as a Corporator of MCC for three terms.
