Social media must be used for creative purposes: S. Sathischandra

Mangaluru: “Young people need to develop their skills using the social networks in a positive way,” said S. Sathischandra, Principal of SDM College.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a state-level three-day workshop on the creation of a website and social networking site hosted by the Journalism and Mass Communication Department of the SDM Postgraduate Center. He said, “In human development, the social network plays the most powerful role. All fields have their own pros and cons. We should use social media systematically for creative purposes, he stressed.

Stating that social networking is like an ocean, he marveled that social networking site is working wonderfully and is providing various opportunities to learn new things as well to exhibit the talents. He added that the new education policy needs to focus on this.

The head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication Dr. Bhaskar Hegde said the new media has expanded into all sectors today. Employees also ask for the technical skills of the new media. Thus, the workshop aims to provide essential training in skills development, he noted.

Vasant B Eshwaragere, editor of Kannadanewsnow. com participated in the workshop as a resource person. The three-day workshop gave an extensive demonstration about social networking sites such as YouTube channel creation and management, revenue generation, Facebook community page creation and management, website creation, management and revenue generation, and others. A total of 98 people including students, professors and journalists attended the workshop.
