Mangaluru: While smuggling is common among passengers flying across the seas, the Mangalore International airport sees yet another case at the customs where a man flying from Dubai was found to have possessed gold worth Rs 11.16 lakhs.

Having arrived by the Air India Express Flight, the passenger was a native of Kasargod. The total amount of gold that he possessed came to 179 grams, which is a clear sign of dishonesty despite knowing the consequences of such an act.

What’s more, the gold was found to have been hidden in paste form, inside bedsheets, pillow covers and a Horlicks bottle.

While the incident may seem hilarious, it is also a sad reminder of smuggling being an ongoing crime, which if not constantly checked, may only be on the rise.
