Mangaluru: Social activist Swamy Agnivesh has asked government to book BJP MPs Pragya Thakur and Anurag Thakur under sedition law, on Sunday, March 8.
He was addressing a protest meeting organised against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) at Jeppinamogaru ground. Agnivesh said if a 19-year-old girl could be booked under sedition law for raising slogans against a country and can be jailed, then a case of sedition should be filed against Pragya Thakur, who despite sitting in the Parliament called Nathuram Godse as a ‘Desh Bhakt(patriot) and also BJP MP Anurag Thakur who shouted ‘Goli maro’ slogans to incite violence in this country.
He said, ” United Nations, as well as international media, is talking about Citizenship, which the central government is attempting to provide on the basis of religion. If people’s citizenship is doubtful for you, then Modi government which was elected by the people is also doubtful.”
Coming down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Agnivesh alleged that they both were dividing the nation on the basis of religion. “Modi had assured to create 2 crore employment for youth per year. Modi mislead people through Pulwama and Balakot strikes,” he said.
Former speaker and minister Ramesh Kumar was also present in the meeting. He said that those who are supporting these laws are real traitors. ” The protest meetings are organised now to decide ‘whether we need Gandhiji or Nathram Godse, humanity or hatred, equality or divide and rule. Though government has tried to suppress the protest meeting through lathi charge and golibar, we will not allow this country to be divided” he said.
Thousands of people participated in the protest meeting and shouted slogans against union govenrment and CAA.
