Six arrested in a murder to stop wedding

Mangaluru: Police have arrested six accused in connection with the murder of Suresh Naik near Aveky in between Dharmasthala-Patrame Road here on April 30.

Addressing the media, Superintendent of Police Bushan Gulabrao Borase said the arrested accused are Ananda Naik (24), a resident of Navoora, Belthangady, Vinaya (30) of Charmadi Village, Belthangady, Praveen (30) of Church Road, Belthangady, Lokesh (34) of Pudu Village, Bantwal Taluk, Prakash (31) of Moodukodi, Belthangady and Nagaraj (39) of Melanthabettu, Belthangady.

SP also revealed that Suresh had engagement with on April 30. Ananda, who was a priest in a temple at Navoora wanted to break this alliance and hence asked Vinay to abduct Suresh and threaten him. Acting to it, Vinay along with four associates, asked Suresh to come to Ujire on the pretext of providing him information on the Ganga Kalyana scheme. Suresh, who reached the venue suggested, was abducted in an Omni Car (KA 19-ME-5750) and taken to an isolated place in between Somanthadka-Didupe road. Here he was strangled to death. After committing the crime, the accused purchased 5 litres of petrol from a bunk in Kokkada and burnt Suresh’ body by wrapping it with gunny bags near Aveky in between Dharmasthala-Patrame Road.
