Mangaluru: Chetana, a Child Development Centre unit of Seva Bharathi, Mangaluru, striving to make differently abled children self reliant will observe its Silver Jubilee on February 17 at Town Hall.
Addressing a press meet at the Chetana School, Trustee Sumitha Shenoy said that it was started by few women in 1993. Now it has become Chetana Child Development Centre. Today the centre’s service sphere touches almost all the angles of disability.”
She also said that during the Silver Jubilee celebrations four well-known personalities who have contributed to the development of Chetana will be felicitated. Giridhar Kamath of Ganesh and Sudhir Chartered Accountancy (handling accounts for the past 25 without taking a fee), P Vasudev Rao (a donor for Chetana and also encouraging others to donate to Chetana School), Nagar Narayanan Shenoy (donor of the land) and Konchady Gopal Shenoy (ex military).
Swami Jithakananadaji, President of Ramakrishna Matt will bless on the occasion. MP Nalin Kumar will preside, Philomena Lobo, Director of Public Instructions will be the guest of honour during the Silver Jubliee Celebrations, she added.
Seva Bharath’s Managing Trustee Vinod Shenoy also informed that there are 35 teachers including physiotherapists. There are 101 specially abled children who are being trained in the institution. Chetana Institution has taken up 20 projects including day care centre for endosulphan victims in Belthangady Taluk, residential school for blind children and clinic for autism disorder.
Shenoy also expressed that a donor had given a land in Ullala to start a day care centre for specially abled children. Chetana will start this unit very soon, he added.
